Angel Sanchez is a Venezuelan fashion designer who started his career from Caracas, Venezuela. He moved to US a decade ago and owns a showroom in Garment District, New York. Sanchez, who is now 42, studied architecture and moved to fashion designing to help his mother, whom he recalls as the “best seamstress of the world”. In Venezuela, he designed for many celebrities as well as Miss Venezuela contestants. The fashion designers who inspire him include Narciso Rodriguez, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera. Sanchez is known for his sense of proportion and his ability to embrace the the silhouette of a female body.
Inspiration
Sanchez’s inspiration is his mother whom he considers the best seamstress of the world. In his childhood, he would be amazed at seeing how her mother transformed an ordinary piece of cloth to an amazing dress. “I thought my mom was a magician!”, says Sanchez. He spent his early days studying his mother’s designing notebooks. After completing his studies in architecture, Sanchez realized the similarities between fashion and architecture. Fashion designing gave him the opportunity to turn his designs into reality in hours and this motivated him to eventually become a fashion designer.
