New York mayor rules in favor of gay weddings

With half of the population of America voting against same-sex marriages, it seems that the country is still holding on to its traditional set of mind.

This however does not mean that same-sex marriages are illegal. Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York recently declared that he is very much in favor of such marriages and in the forthcoming days New Yorkers will witness lot of same-sex wedding ceremonies if everything goes on well.

The mayor said:

The U.S. Constitution should be something that unites rather than divides Americans. I do not believe that government should be in the business of telling people who they can and can’t marry. I believe New Yorkers should have the right to marry whomever they choose, regardless of sexual orientation.

Though the constitution guarantees equal right to every citizen, under the existing laws same-sex marriages even today face many obstacles.
